New Valentine's Day Tradition
With my husband being away this year, my oldest daughter was my Valentine. And therefore, I was hers!
We of course made all the Valentine’s Day treats and ate lots of candy! But I wanted to make it special in a way other than just eating our way through the holiday.
Although there is nothing wrong with that either!!
Since she is only 4 and still learning about herself and others, I thought it would be fun to write out things we love about ourselves, what we love about others, things that make us happy, and ways we remind ourselves of these good things when we are having “bad” days.
Now this is a lot for a 4 year old to comprehend!! So it required patience, from both of us. And we only focused on writing one a day. For example, one day we would talk about what we love about ourselves : I would say something I love about her and then she would say one thing she loved about herself. And we both would write that one thing on a post-it. Then the next day, we would do the same thing but change the topic to one thing we love about me (Mama), and so on!
She would also draw on a post-it every night, and that helped keep up her interest!!
By doing this, it forced us to talk more about things other than being happy and being beautiful. It showed her that we are more than what you can see physically, and that we are all different and lovely in our own way.
Even though next year Daddy will be home, hopefully, and we will have our Valentine back. We will do this again! It was a fun way to talk about ourselves and others in a positive way. And in my opinion, this is so important when raising little ones!
So save this for next year and let me know if you try it!
I’m so happy you’re here! I’m a military wife and a mom of two. I love coffee, wine, and Jesus! If you’re looking for creativity and affordable style, then you’re in the right place. I hope to bring you a little bit of joy and laughter as you follow along!
